Content and scope
The training consists of intensive training modules, project assignment and reading assignments. The assignments are designed to help put experience and theory into practice. The project assignment outlines and aims to resolve a specific challenge in the student’s organisation.
The programme’s focus is on the best known practices and latest thinking towards the future. The training modules consist of a combination of lectures, case studies, group work and games.
The lecturers and trainers are well-known experts in their fields. They come from Aalto University and other organisations from Finland and abroad. Aalto PRO provides the students with an e-learning environment to facilitate the learning process.
The training programme combines recent theory and practical knowledge of sourcing, procurement and supply management. The students will:
- understand the changing strategic role of sourcing and supply management
- gain new perspectives on international supply management
- learn how to apply total cost thinking
- learn how to apply different supplier relationship strategies depending on markets, commodities and suppliers
- find ways to measure the performance of the suppliers and sourcing operations
- learn how to achieve significant savings with new sourcing competences
- learn from the experience of the leading organisations
The scope of the programme is 17 ECTS credits.
Objectives
The DGS programme develops professional competence of the students in areas such as strategic sourcing and supply management, so to help them manage better profitability, enhance performance and build new sourcing culture in their companies.
The training consists of intensive training modules, a project assignment and reading assignments. The assignments are designed to help students put experience and theory into practice. The project assignment outlines and aims to resolve a specific challenge in the student’s organisation.
Completing DGS
For obtaining the diploma the student needs to
- participate in 80% of the face-to-face sessions
- show approved completion of the compulsory assignments.

This programme is designed for people with technical or business background and some related professional working experience.
The programme is especially valuable to those who are
- responsible for sourcing operations or supply management
- striving to these positions
- working closely with sourcing functions (e.g. operations management, logistics)
- wishing to obtain a holistic understanding of supply management.

The core experts in the programme have a broad experience from corporate world in addition to their academic credits.
Kari Iloranta
M.Sc. (Tech) Kari Iloranta has had general management positions within several industries and leadership roles in topmost international consulting companies, e.g. building and leading Boos Allen Hamilton’s Finnish operations 1998 – 2004. Kari has broad experience on development of strategies, change programmes, organisations, management models and B2B relationships. Kari has a key role in development of study and teaching in Supply Management at Aalto University and Aalto PRO. Kari is co-author of "Hankintojen johtaminen – ostamisesta toimittajamarkkinan hallintaan"*, and is working on dissertation on "Cognitive factors retarding effective utilisation of external resources" at Aalto University.
Aki Laiho
M.Sc. (Tech.) Aki Laiho is currently full-time researcher and project manager at BIT. His research interests are in area of global operations and supply chain management, and he is finalizing his dissertation on Orchestration of Demand/Supply Networks. He has over 10 years of industry experience in various international leadership positions in electronics and machinery industry both in Finland and abroad.
Peter Hines
Dr. Peter Hines is Professor of Supply Chain Management and Director of the Lean Enterprise Research Centre at Cardiff Business School. Peter Hines followed a successful career in distribution and manufacturing industry before joining Cardiff Business School in 1992. The Lean Enterprise Research Centre is the largest dedicated research centre in Lean Thinking in the world.
Professor Hines has undertaken extensive research into the Supply Chain in both the automotive and other industries and has pioneered a number of key concepts, methods and applications in Europe, including: Supplier Associations (now involving over 800 European firms), Value Stream Mapping, Network Sourcing, the Three Tier System of Management and the Value Stream Analysis Tool. He has written or co-written several books including “Creating World Class Suppliers” published in 1994, “The Lean Enterprise” published in 1997, “Value Stream Management” published in 2000, and 2009 Shingo Prize winner Staying Lean in 2008.
Helena Haapio
Helena Haapio , LL.M., MQ (Master of Laws, Master of Quality) works as Contract Coach with Lexpert Ltd based in Helsinki, Finland. She supports clients in defining and managing successful trading relationships, helping them use contracts to get better business results and stay out of legal trouble.
Eero Eloranta
Dr. Eero E. Eloranta is professor in Industrial Management since 1991. He is one of the founders of the predecessor of BIT, TAI Research Center and the first Director of TAI. Dr. Eloranta has served as Head of the Department of IEM at TKK for multiple periods. He has worked for Nokia, altogether four years, during his academic sabbathicals, since the mid 90'ies. Dr. Eloranta is chairman of the Helkama Emotor and Helkama Velox, and a member of the board in Onninen. He is a member of the Academy of Technical Sciences in Finland. Dr. Eloranta has published 30 review journal articles, eight books and more than 100 other papers. His focus of expertise is in Global Operations and Demand-Supply Chain Management, both in manufacturing and service businesses.
Marja Blomqvist
M.Sc., Lis.Sc. (Tech) & Researcher Marja Blomqvist is currently part-time researcher in BIT in GLOBENET project. Besides research and teaching activities at Aalto University, she works in consulting & training. She obtained her Lic. Sc degree while working as researcher at TAI, the predecessor of BIT, and has worked in the electronics industry for five years before re-joining BIT. Her current research interests are related to Operations Strategy and Supply Chain Management, especially the structure of manufacturing network and its impact on the whole supply chain.

Sisältö
Hankintajohtamisen täydennyskoulutusohjelma DGS kokoaa yhteen ajankohtaisen teorian ja käytännön sekä edelläkävijäyritysten kokemukset hankintatoimesta ja ostojen johtamisesta.
Tavoitteena on antaa opiskelijalle valmiudet
- tunnistaa hankintatoimen strategisen roolin muutos
- löytää uusia näkökulmia kansainväliseen hankintajohtamiseen
- soveltaa kokonaiskustannusajattelua
- soveltaa erilaisia strategioita toimittajasuhteisiin riippuen markkinoista, toimittajista ja tuotteista
- löytää erilaisia tapoja mitata sekä toimittajien että hankintatoimen tehokkuutta
- saavuttaa merkittäviä säästöjä uuden hankintaosaamisensa ansiosta
- soveltaa edelläkävijäyritysten toimintatapoja.
Toteutus
DGS-hankintakoulutus koostuu kuudesta lähiopetusjaksosta, kirjallisista harjoituksista sekä kurssilaisen omaan yritykseen tehtävästä kehitysprojektista. Kurssin kouluttajat ovat alansa tunnettuja asiantuntijoita Aalto-yliopistosta sekä muualta Suomesta ja ulkomailta. Koulutus on englanninkielinen, mikä kehittää samalla myös osallistujien ammatillista kielitaitoa.

Ohjelma on suunnattu henkilöille, joilla on kaupallinen tai tekninen koulutustausta, jonkin verran alan työkokemusta sekä halua saada kokonaisvaltainen kuva hankintatoimesta. Kurssi on hyödyllinen erityisesti heille, jotka ovat
